Folk games at annual festivals in Da Nang cancelled due to COVID-19 threat
Following instructions issued by Da Nang authorities, folk games at upcoming traditional and religious festivals in Da Nang will be cancellled amid coronavirus threat.
The traditional Tuy Loan Village Communal House Festival is held annually on the 9th and 10th days of the 1st lunar month. The event aims to remind the younger generations of long-lasting traditions, as well as to preserve and promote the village’s cultural identity. |
The much-hailed move aims to limit crowds, hereby reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the community amid the fresh resurgence of COVID-19 in some Vietnamese localities over the past month.
Annually, a vast and varied array of exciting traditional and religious festivals will take place throughout Da Nang between the 1st and 3rd lunar month.
Specifically mentioned will be the Tuy Loan Village Communal House Festival on 20 and 21 February (the 9th and 10th days of the 1st lunar month), the Cau Ngu (fish worshipping) Festival in Thanh Khe District’s Xuan Ha Ward on 27 February (the 16th days of the 1st lunar month), and the Quan The Am (Avalokitesvara) Festival in the Marble Mountains Tourist Area from 29-31 March (17th - 19th days of the 2nd lunar month).
Most of the festivals will feature both many solemn traditional activities and exciting folk games.
However, in light of some Vietnamese localities drastically combating the COVID-19 resurgence, the scale, organisation time and festive activities of these events will be reduced.
