The organisers of the ongoing Viet Nam's top-tier V-League 2021 have decided to halt all matches in the fourth round, which was due to take place from 5-7 February, until further notice following the recent resurgence of Covid-19 community transmissions.

Three matches - Than Quang Ninh FC vs HCMC FC, SHB Da Nang FC vs Ha Tinh FC, and Hai Phong FC vs Hanoi FC - this weekend have been put on hold because many footballers of these clubs stem from localities with fresh outbreak of the deadly disease, including Quang Ninh, HCMC, and Ha Noi.

The Viet Nam Professional Football JSC (VPF) has yet to decide when the league would resume, saying it will await further developments.

After VFP-made decision on postponement of the league, the SHB Da Nang Sport JSC and the SHB Da Nang Club have allowed all of its players who live far away from their families to return home for Tet.

Aside from SHB’s midfielder A Hoang hailing from Gia Lai Province where six fresh locally-infected cases of Covid-19 have been reported in recent days, the rest of the club's players do not come from localities where Covid-19 outbreaks are occurring.

However, SHB DN Club’s leaders asked all club members to strictly abide by Viet Nam Nam's national government-mandated pandemic prevention and control regulations in a bid to protect themselves and their families, and stem the spread of the virus.

As planned, on the 4th day of the 1st lunar month, SHB football players will attend the first training session after Tet in preparation for the next games.

Chairman of the SHB DN Club Bui Xuan Hoa, however, said that his club will make appropriate adjustments to the club’s training plans based on the current situation.

Last year, the V-League season was twice suspended due to Covid-19, forcing VPF and the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) to change the league format by dividing it into two phases and reducing the number of matches from 26 to 20. However, Viet Nam’s top-flight professional football tournament concluded successfully with Viettel taking home the championship title.
