Da Nang sports sector makes greater efforts to gain more success in 2021
Despite facing many pandemic-sparked difficulties, last year, Da Nang athletes still reaped significant achievements in the domestic sports arena with 215 golds, 205 silvers and 313 bronzes.
Apart from Nguyen Huu Kim Son, talented swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc (in picture) has a high hope to be selected for Vietnamese swimming team to compete in the upcoming SEA Games 31 which will take place in Viet Nam late this year. |
Currently, Da Nang athletes are on a very busy schedule to prepare for some important sports events, including the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) which is slated to take place in Viet Nam late this year, and Vier Nam's National Physical Exercise and Sports Festival 2022.
Da Nang athletes are aiming to bring home between 8 and 10 gold medals from the forthcoming regional sporting event, as well as to claim 155 golds, 165 silvers and 150 bronzes at 114 this year’s national tournaments.
As planned, two talented swimmers Hoang Quy Phuoc and Nguyen Huu Kim Son will be sent to Hungary for short-term training courses. Also, depending on the situation of COVID-19 pandemic and Da Nang’s budget, 67 athletes and 97 coaches will compete in international sports events.
However, Director of the Da Nang Athlete Training Centre Nguyen Dong Hai remarked his centre could find it very difficult to fulfill its assigned tasks for the city's high performance sports during the 2021-2030 period because it is facing a shortage of funds.
In particular, the Da Nang Athlete Training Centre is in need of 7.1 billion to cover training and competition expenses during this year, but it has been granted only 3.5 billion VND by Da Nang government. Meanwhile, the training plan for swimmers Hoang Quy Phuoc and Nguyen Huu Kim Son needs 6.3 billion VND in total, but the centre has received financial aid of 4.2 billion VND for this plan.
Director Hai underlined a must-do for leaders of Da Nang sports sector to issue more preferential policies for local athletes and coaches in order to create the best favourable conditions for them to devote their best efforts for the city’s sports sector.
