There is no denying that, not only does the launching of a bunch of online competitions help avoid boredom amongst university students and school pupils who stay home for safety amid the complex developments of COVID-19, but it also motivates them to enhance their development skills.

“Hold on and stay strong together”

The ‘Take hold of victory faith’ contest, which went virtual from May 13 to June 1 by the Da Nang Youth Union in collaboration with the SKY-LINE High-quality Educational System, attracted a large number of contestants, and received high public appreciation.

The contest featured many categories which fit participants of different age groups. For primary and junior high school pupils, the ‘Following Uncle Ho’s teachings - We are ready’ round helped the entrants show their high respect for Uncle Ho by doing good deeds, thereby reflecting the spirit of solidarity, industriousness, learning eagerness as well as cheering up those on the frontlines in the tough fight against the virus resurgence.

Meanwhile, ‘Hold on together- Take hold of victory faith’ was open to senior high schools, contributing to cheering up the frontline soldiers in the COVID-19 combat, while demonstrating the young citizens’ responsibilities towards the elections for the 15th National Assembly (NA) and People's Council at all levels for the 2021 - 2026 tenure.

Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Youth Union Nguyen Thi Anh Thao said, “The contest aimed to create an opportunity for Youth Union members as well as students to learn more about the stories of President Ho Chi Minh’s life and career, especially his love for children, thereby encouraging them to study and follow his teachings to become virtuous and talented citizens who are ready to make great contributions to the country’s progress”.

Thanks to its practical significance, the contest attracted about 600 entries designed on computers, using specialized graphics software or hand-drawn and posted on the contest’s fanpage for the calculation of points based on the number of likes and shares.

Mr. Huynh Minh Hoang, a parent of Huynh Phuong Thao, a pupil at the Hoang Van Thu Primary School, said: “This is a useful and meaningful contest. My daughter was excited to compete with her peers at the contest with a panting conveying a highly meaningful message as saying: “You are safe when the whole of Viet Nam is safe! Viet Nam is safe when the entire world is safe”. So, let's join hands with frontline forces in the coronavirus fight and follow the 5K recommendations of the Ministry of Health!”.

Inspiring creative passion

The Da Nang Students’ Association recently launched a contest to celebrate the 110th year since President Ho Chi Minh left Viet Nam on June 5, 1911 to start a journey around the world looking for ways in a bid to ultimately liberate Viet Nam from colonial rule.

The event saw the active participation of many university students with their entries showing off elaborate and beautiful graphic designs.

Noticeably, an entry made by Tran Vinh Phuc, a student majoring in Graphic Design at the FPT University in Da Nang, made it stand out with the attraction of more than 1,400 likes. “I hold a great passion for History and Infographic, a new genre with interesting content, and this inspired me to join the contest to come up with Infographic design ideas”, said Phuc.

In fact, the event aims to help arouse national pride, ardent patriotism and put faith upon the Party and Uncle Ho amongst the general public, as well as raise the awareness and responsibility of people from all walks of life, especially the young generation, in following President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality, and lifestyle to make more significant contributions to the country’s progress.

Another highly effective event was the painting contest and exhibition entitled ‘Da Nang – My beloved city’ jointly organised in mid-April 2021 by Da Nang Fine Arts Museum and the Department of Education and Training.

The event attracted close to 200 entries from teenagers and children across the city on the occasion of the Month of Action for Children 2021 and the International Children's Day (June 1).

This contest helped create an interesting and useful playground for children, giving them the opportunity to promote their passion for arts creation, thereby arousing the young generation's love for their homeland in parallel with ensuring their safety whilst staying home from school amid the COVID-19 pandemic, said Ms. Nguyen Thi Trinh, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum.
