The Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre used face to face interviews and online survey tools when conducting questionnaires from June 20 to July 10.

The survey was designed to help Da Nang tourism industry grasp the psychology and needs of the general public as well as look at changes in the travel behaviour of Da Nang citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby developing solutions and tourism products suitable to local residents’ travel demand when restrictions will be lifted.

The survey’s contents revolved around access channels to learn about staycation, factors that make the respondents decide to take staycation, the form and duration of stay, means of transport, an estimated budget for the trip and other related matters.

As a result, the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre collected a combined total of 3,061 full answers through its questionnaire in both face-to-face and online manner from respondents, of whom, 60.4% are women and 39.6% are men. The survey conductor sought to reach 87.7% of its respondents through social media platforms, 59.1% from its friends, relatives and colleagues and 36.9% and 22.2% through television and newspapers respectively.

The survey results indicate that 86.7% of respondents answered that they are looking to travel locally once they’re able to do so. The results also indicate that there are four factors that influence local people's travel plans, namely safety with 49.6% of the respondents, pricing policy with 58.5%, and financial capacity with 6.7%, and service quality with 49.6%.

Amid the complex developments of COVID-19, 46.4% of those surveyed believed that it was not yet safe to travel far away from home.

In addition, 61.9% of respondents answered that they want to travel with their friends, travel with their families with 60.1%, book tours with 16.4%, and travel alone with 15%.

48.8% of those surveyed want to travel by their private motorbike, by their own car with 28.4%, and by taxi and coach with 21.8%.

36.4% of those surveyed choose to stay in 4-star hotels and 25.7% with 5-star hotels and 22.1% with villas and resorts. 51.7% of respondents answered that their average travel cost is from VND 500,000 to VND 2 million, from VND 2 million- VND 5 million with 24.9% and less than VND 500,000 with 11.9%.

The survey results also shows that the top 5 destinations are Mikazuki Water Park with 36.3% of respondents, Yen Retreat with 35.7%, An Nhien Farm - La Huong Vegetable Village  with 33.7%, Nam O fish sauce village with 32.3%, Hoa Phu Thanh Tourist Site with 27.9%. The most popular destinations are Son Tra Peninsula, Sun World Ba Na Hills Tourist Site, and Nui Than Tai Hot Springs.

Data showed that tourists care more about hygiene standards - in accommodation, public transport, public facilities and tourist sites – than they did prior to the coronavirus.

The tourism industry will develop solutions and strengthen COVID-19 preventive measures in a bid to remove coronavirus anxiety from local residents to help them feel secure and safety when travelling locally after the outbreak is brought under control.
