Virtual publicity on the 60th anniversary of the Viet Nam AO/Dioxin Disaster Day
The Museum Da Nang is on track to carry out the programme entitled ‘The pain of Agent Orange (AO) victims - The journey to get through it’ from August 4 - 10, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Viet Nam AO/Dioxin Disaster Day (August 10, 1961 - 2021).
Due to the complicated development of COVID-19 battering the city, the museum is widely publicising the main topics on the AO/Dioxin Disaster on social networking sites.
The topics are Operation Ranch Hand, What is AO?, AO Spray Map, AO Spraying Vehicles, Journey to Seek Justice, Overcoming the Pain and Solving the Consequences of AO.
The above-mentioned activities aim to help the public better understand the pain of AO victims in the Viet Nam War and their great efforts and strong determination to overcome difficulties and challenges.
From 1961 - 1971, US troops sprayed more than 80 million litres of herbicides - 44 million litres of which were AO containing nearly 370 kilograms of dioxin - over southern Viet Nam.
As a result, around 4.8 million Vietnamese were exposed to the toxic chemical. Many of the victims have died, while millions of their descendants are living with deformities and diseases as a direct result of the chemical’s effects.
