This year's National Junior Athletics Championships have been called off due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Vietnam Athletics Federation (VAF).

The sporting event was due to take place in parallel with the National Athletics Championships 2021 in Ha Noi from December 5-13.

However, the National Junior Athletics Championships 2021 has been cancelled because of fears about the spread of COVID-19, whilst the National Athletics Championships 2021 will be organized as scheduled.

The National Athletics Championships 2021 will feature a total of 50 events, 24 of which will be dedicated for male athletes, 24 for women and the remaining 2 being mixed relay events.

Gold and silver medalists at the upcoming sports event will be selected for the country’s national athletics team in preparation for SEA Games 31 and ASIAD 19 which both are set to take place next year.
