National U21 Football Tournament qualifiers to kick off on Nov. 26
The Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) has just issued regulations on the 25th National U21 Football Tournament 2021.
As a rule, a combined total of 22 football teams nationwide will compete in the qualifying rounds. Each team can register 18- 30 players, including a maximum of five 22-year-old players.
During the tournament, if a team has a player called up for the national team, the corresponding number of players will be added. Due to the complicated developments of the pandemic, all matches of the tournament will take place on the northern stadium cluster.
Specifically, in the qualifying stages, 8 teams in Group A, 7 teams in Group B, and 7 teams in Group C, will play in Hung Yen Province.
Under the competition's rules, these teams will compete in a round-robin format. Three first, three second and three third teams in each group, along with the two best fourth-placed teams will advance to the final round.
In the finals, 12 teams will be divided into 3 groups, competing in a round-robin format to choose 3 first-placed teams, 3 runners-up and 2 best third-placed teams in each group, to progress to the quarter-finals and the medal rounds.
Since the quarterfinals, the teams will compete in knockout rounds. If the game remains tied after 90 minutes, there will be a penalty shootout.
The qualifiers of the National U21 Football Tournament 2021 will take place from November 26 to December 10, and the final round will be held from December 14 - 30.
