Viet Nam Book and Reading Culture Day held annually on April 21

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has signed Decision No.1862/QD-TTg on the organising of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day annually on a national scale on April 21.

The highly meaningful move aims to affirm the position, role and importance of books in enhancing knowledge and skills, developing critical thinking, educating human personalities, promoting the reading movement in the community and creating a favourable reading environment.

Also, it is expected to form reading habits in families, schools, state agencies and organisations, thus contributing to building a learning society.

Besides, the Day aims to honour readers, authors, publishers, printers, libraries, organisations and individuals for significantly contributing to the development of a reading culture in the community.

The national associations of Publishing  and Libraries are responsible for instructing their member units to launch activities in an active response to the Viet Nam Book and Reading Culture Day.

Such media giants as Viet Nam Television, The Voice of Viet Nam, Viet Nam News Agency and national and municipal/ provincial press agenices shall promote the publicity of the Day and the progress of the reading culture.
