On November 1, the Vietnamese national swimming team, led by coaches Nguyen Hoang Vu and Phan Quang Minh Quan, left for Hungary to train from November 1 to December 13 in preparation for the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which will be hosted by Viet Nam next year.

The team members are Nguyen Huu Kim Son, Hoang Quy Phuoc, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Pham Thanh Bao, Tran Hung Nguyen, Ho Nguyen Duy Khoa, Ngo Dinh Chuyen, Le Thi My Thao, and Pham Thi Van.

Swimming star Nguyen Thi Anh Vien wasn’t on the list to go to Hungary, because she had previously written an application to leave the Vietnamese swimming team. Although the National Sports Administration and her military team haven’t made a final decision on her proposal, she refused to go to Hungary.

The team members will be trained at the Hungarian Club BVSC Zuglo, where the 'extraordinary man of the Han River' Hoang Quy Phuoc trained for a long period of time in 2016, with the help of Mr Peter Nagy, Head of the Swimming Coaches’ Board of the BVSC Zuglo Club.

After the overseas training trip, these swimmers will take part in the 15th edition of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) which is set to take place in Abu Dhabi (UAE) from December 16 - 21. The forthcoming event is considered a test step for the coaching board of the Vietnamese national swimming team to consider whether the training course in Hungary is professionally suitable for the team members or not.
