Imbued with the principle of ‘When drinking water, think of its source', agencies, units and localities across Da Nang have organised many activities to educate revolutionary traditions for the young generation. This has contributed to arousing a sense of responsibility and helping the young generation to be more proud and respectful of the nation's revolutionary traditions.

A variety of activities held annually

In mid-April 2022, the Da Nang Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Hoa Vang District-located Nguyen Van Linh Junior High School held an exhibition themed ‘Sketches of the Zone 5 Battlefield’ to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - 2022).

The exhibition presented 42 reproductions of resistance war-themed sketches donated by the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts. Each sketch acts as a vividly- reproduced story with true experiences of wartime life, reflecting the difficult, arduous yet very heroic and undaunted life of the Vietnamese army and people.

Through this ongoing exhibition, the organisers wish to pay tribute to the contributions and sacrifices by Vietnamese heroes and martyrs for the national liberation and educating the young generation about ardent patriotism.

Le Anh Ngan, a pupil of Grade 9/3 from the Nguyen Van Linh Junior High School expressed “After visiting the exhibition and hearing about the meaning of the displayed works, we are proud of unyielding revolutionary will of his father's generation in the resistance war against foreign invaders. This heroic past helps us love and appreciate the peaceful life today. This is the motivation to encourage us to study and become useful citizens in the future".

Over the past years, the Museum of Da Nang has coordinated with schools citywide to organise extracurricular activities for students.

During these extracurricular activities, pupils learn about specific topics based on the museum’s displayed contents. In particular, the museum has dedicated two topics to introduce pupils to the city’s revolutionary traditions during the two resistance wars against the joint French-Spanish army during the 1858-1860 period and against the US invaders from 1965-1975 .

Mr. Tran Van Chuan, Head of Communications Office of the Museum of Da Nang, said that his museum has organised extracurricular educational activities for students since 2014 with the frequency of about 50-70 sessions/year.

He added that, every year, his museum takes the initiative to develop a plan to refresh and enhance the efficiency of such experiential activities to attract more students.

One of the most attractive and effective traditional revolutionary education methods for the younger generation is to organize visits to historical relic sites. In order to meet increasing demand from agencies and localities, the city has paid special attention to renovating and expanding many historical sites, such as Phuoc Ninh Martyrs' Cemetery in Hai Chau District, and Hoa Vang Martyrs' Cemetery in Cam Le District.

Recently, a cultural park at the Go Ha relic site in Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang, has been inaugurated.

The construction work has shown off respect and deep gratitude, honouring the great contributions and sacrifices of the soldiers in the Go Ha battle that took place in 1965. Besides, this is also a way of preserving the past to educate patriotic traditions and national pride for future generations.

Traditional revolutionary education for younger generation has always been one of the key and regular tasks set by the municipal Youth Union and its chapters at all levels across the city.

Every year, candlelight ceremonies in gratitude to heroes and martyrs are held simultaneously at 10,627 martyrs' cemeteries citywide by the Youth Union organisations at grassroots level.

Besides, the municipal Youth Union has organised many meaningful programmes and activities to show the traditional morality of ‘When drinking water, think of its source’, including 'We always stay here with you, Mom', ‘Light up martyrs' cemeteries’, and ‘Offering flowers to martyrs’.

In addition, the Youth Union has cooperated with the municipal War Veterans’ Association, the ex-Youth Volunteers’ Association and the Patriotic Prisoners Association to organise annual exchange and discussion activities to educate the youth on revolutionary morality.
