In recent days, dozens of workers and engineers at the construction sites of the project on upgrading and embellishing the Da Nang Peace Monument, and expanding the March 29 Square, have been busy completing their work.

Work started on the first phase of the nearly VND43 billion project on March 29, 2022, and it is expected to be completed within a time of 300 days.

However, the Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects proposed to extend the deadline of the project to April 30, 2023 owing to some problems during the construction process. In particular, there is a delay in the transportation of the monumental tiles imported from Japan, and construction workers are handling technical problems of the basement. These are the two most important and time-consuming construction items of this project.

Up to now, the construction of the base of the relief plate, the dismantling of bricks and the plastering of the main items of the monument, the paving of stone for the front yard and the western stairs, have been already completed.

Meanwhile, the relevant units have completed the geological survey and the quality control of the work. The Da Nang Institute of Construction Planning is finalizing the design for the base of the monument.

“We are committed to completing the dismantling of bricks cladding the monument before the Tet Festival 2023. After Tet, we will clean the entire basement with sand and complete the remaining work in order to ensure the on-schedule progress. We want to do the project quickly, but this is a cultural and spiritual work, so it cannot be rushed. We must carefully and carefully study in each construction item" Mr. Ngo Van Son, Director of the Nam Vinh JSC - the construction unit, said.

Similarly, busy atmosphere has been recorded at the construction site of the upgrading of the facilities at 42-44 Bach Dang and 31 Tran Phu into the new Museum of Da Nang.

According to Mr. Le Van Tuyet, Deputy Director of the Management Board, his unit and the contractor are closely monitoring the progress of the project.

Till date, the contractor has completed the rough construction of the newly built museum block. Currently, the painting of walls, the tiling of tiles and stones inside, and the installation of concrete wall panels are underway.

In addition, the foundation of a building at 31 Tran Phu is being constructed, and the building at 42 and 44 Bach Dang is being upgraded.

The construction unit focuses on renovating the interior part of the building and keeping the original state of the exterior part.

“This is the city’s key cultural work, so the Management Board and contractors are making efforts to complete important items before Tet. The new construction is expected to be completed before March 15, 2023 according to the contract schedule, whilst the construction of interior and display parts are slated to be completed in October, 2023"said Mr. Tuyet.

After one year of implementation, many important items of the project on preserving, restoring and promoting the value of Hai Van Gate relic have been completed.

Mr. Phan Van Tuan, Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center cum Head of the Management Board of the project, said that up to now, the project has done more than 50% of the progress.

In which, the stone walls around the gates of the Hai Van Quan and Thien Ha De Nhat Hung Quan have been restored. Tru So and Vu Kho houses have been basically completed. Internal roads have been paved with continuous stones. Most of the stones used for the restoration work are collected on-site. Particularly, the gates of the Thien Ha De Nhat Hung Quan and Hai Van Quan have been repaired with typical mallet bricks collected during the search and archeological process.

“Previously, the project faced some problems related to lowering power lines and protection forests, but so far, Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue Province have basically coordinated to solve them. Since October 2022, unusual rains and strong winds have greatly affected the progress of the project. If the weather is favourable, the project will be completed in 2023 according to the contract" Mr. Tuan remarked

Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Pham Tan Xu said his agency regularly monitored the construction process and directs the management board to ensure the on-schedule progress of the city’s key cultural works. In addition to requesting the construction unit to ensure quality, and technical and aesthetic issues, the department asked the construction unit to put the safety of the work to be the top priority, especially cultural and historical works.
