Nearly 800 runners compete in 25th DA NANG Newspaper Road Races

The 25th edition of the DA NANG Newspaper Road Races took place at the Tien Son Sport Arena on Sunday morning, with the participation of around 800 runners from 75 agencies, units, localities and city-based armed forces, plus 3 delegations of professional athletes.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony, DA NANG Newspaper Editor-in-chief Nguyen Duc Nam, expressed his sincere thanks to the city leaders for their active support for the newspaper’s annual races.

He also underlined the significance of the event in promoting the development of high-achievement sports in Da Nang, as well as inspiring people from all walks of life, civil servants, school pupils and college students, military officers and men across the city to actively get involved in physical training movements.

In their efforts to improve the quality of the races and widely spread the sports movement in the whole society, the organizers make appropriate changes every year. In addition, the organizers have received many valuable constructive opinions from the participants with the hope that the tournament would be held even more successfully, Mr. Nam added.

He noted through the 24 successful editions, the DA NANG Newspaper Road Races has affirmed its brand and created a positive social impact as the number of registered runners increases year by year.

After the opening ceremony, all runners started to compete in both the individual and team events, and distances will include 1.5km, 2km, 3km, 4km, 5km and 7km. The races were broadcast live on the Da Nang Radio and Television Station.

In the end, Cam Le District took the lead in the team category for the district level, followed by Thanh Khe and Hoa Vang districts.

The winners in the team categories of junior high schools; senior high schools; ward and commune-level militia; and key military forces were from the Ngu Hanh Son District Office of Education and Training, the Pham Phu Thu Senior High School, Hoa Cuong Nam Ward, and the Military School of Military Region 5 respectively.

The Da Nang Department of Police won the first prizes in the team categories of government agencies, factories, schools and amateur athletes, and local military forces.

Besides, Tran Van Hai Duong from the Da Nang Athlete Training Center claimed the first prize of the men’s individual category for professional athletes, whilst Le Thi Lam from the Da Nang-based National Sports Training Center took the first prize of the women’s individual category for professional athletes.
