Da Nang yields impressive results in sports and cultural sectors
The Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports on Wednesday afternoon held a meeting to review the performance of the cultural and sports sectors in 2022 and deploy their 2023 tasks.
In 2022, the city focused on building a grassroots cultural life in a deeper manner. Importance was attached to investing in culture and sports facilities at the grassroots level in order to meet the public's entertainment and exercise needs.
In particular, Da Nang achieved good results in preserving and promoting cultural heritage values. Included was ‘Ma Nhai’ (Inscriptions) at the Marble Mountains which has been officially recognized as a documentary heritage under the UNESCO Memory of the World for the Asia-Pacific Region, and the scientific conference entitled ‘Victory of Don Nhat - Hai Van Gate’ (September 25, 1952 -2022).
For physical training and sport performance, the city successfully held its major and annual events. Especially, the Da Nang International Marathon attracted nearly 5,000 participants while the 6th VNG Ironman 70.3 Vietnam triathlon, the largest of its kind in Viet Nam, saw the participation of more than 2,500 domestic and foreign athletes, including nearly 1,100 Vietnamese participants.

In particular, the city's sports delegation brought home 34 gold medals, 42 silver medals, 50 bronze medals from the 9th National Sports Festival and the city’s team ranked 5th nationally.
In 2023, the department will focus on embellishing the city’s key cultural works. Heed will be paid to implementing socio-cultural development projects in association with promoting the city’s economic development, building civilized and friendly Da Nang people, in order to lay a strong foundation for building a peaceful and livable city, forming its own identity values in line with the traditions, history and culture of Da Nang people. Special attention will be paid to developing mass sports events in efforts to improve Da Nang people’s health in the 2022-2030 period, with a vision to 2045. Importance will be attached to organizing major events such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2023, and the Da Nang Asian Film Festival.
Also at the meeting, the Municipal Department of Culture and Sports and the Hai Chau District Culture and Sports Center received the Emulation Flag from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In addition, 5 organizations and 3 individuals were honoured with the Ministry’s certificates of merit in recognition of their dedication and commitment to the cultural and sports sectors in 2022.
Besides, 56 organizations and 142 individuals were awarded certificates of merit from the Municipal Department of Culture and Sports in recognition of their excellent performance in 2022. Furthermore, the Da Nang People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 74 athletes and coaches who have achieved excellent results at the 9th National Sports Festival in 2022.
