Quan The Am Festival 2023 promises diverse cultural and artistic activities

The Quan The Am (Avalokitesvara) Festival 2023 is slated to take place from March 8 - 10 (the 17th to 19th days of the second lunar month) at the campus of the Quan The Am Pagoda and along Su Van Hanh and Le Van Hien roads.

This year’s spiritual event will feature a total of 32 cultural, artistic, sports and religious activities.

Specifically, the opening ceremony of the festival will be held at 7:00 on March 8, and the procession of worshiping Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara at 7:00am on March 10.

Also, there will be the incense offering ceremony in memory of Princess Huyen Tran, a ceremony to pray for national peace and prosperity, a speech about ‘Ma Nhai’ (Inscriptions), a Non Nuoc stone carving contest, five stalls displaying Non Nuoc stone carving products, kite and hot air balloon flying demonstrations, parades of flower-decorated float vehicles, and the opening of the Van Hanh Library.

Additionally, a wide range of cultural and artistic activities will be organised during the festival. Included will be an Trung Vuong Theatre-hosted arts programme, Japanese arts performances, a vegetarian cooking show, ‘bai choi’ performances, an exhibition of painting - calligraphy - ornamental stones, a boat race on the Co Co River, a village-scale chess festival, and tug-of-war competition.

Besides, a ceremony will be held at 8:00am on March 1 in the campus of the Marble Mountains Tourist Area to receive a certificate of recognition of ‘ma nhai’ (Inscriptions) as a documentary heritage under the UNESCO Memory of the World for the Asia-Pacific Region Programme.

The event aims to honour, introduce and promote the special values of history, culture, calligraphy and arts of ‘ma nhai’ at the Marble Mountains Tourist Area.

Specifically, a documentary film about the first UNESCO-recognised world heritage of Da Nang will be screened. There will be speeches delivered by the municipal leaders, representatives of the UNESCO office in Viet Nam, a ceremony of awarding a certificate of recognition, and a ‘ma nhai’ tour.
