This is a tournament under the Asian Development Tour (ADT) system, and a key tournament in the series of activities at the 2023 Da Nang Golf Tourism Festival hosted by Da Nang.

The tournament follows Par 72 layout designed by ‘Nicklaus Design’, a company owned by the legendary golfer and golf icon Jack Nicklaus.

The total prizes of US$100,000 for the tournament will be given out to outstanding competitors and the trophy is crafted by artisans in Chu Dau ceramics located in the northern city of Hai Duong, representing the 600-year history of formation and development of the golf industry.

This year, the event’s organisers has invited 20 outstanding athletes in the Vietnamese golf field for competition, including leading figures who are professional athletes such as Doan Van Dinh, Nguyen Huu Quyet, Do Hong Giang, along with amateur athletes such as Nguyen Dang Minh, Nguyen Nhat Long and Doan Uy.

According to Ken Kudo, Associate Director, Partnerships at Asian Tour, this is the second year the ADT event has been held in Da Nang. Assessing the quality of athletes, he said there are more than 20 golfers who are champions at the tournament system of the Asian Development Tour and Asian Tour. This will contribute to increasing the quality of the tournament as well as the excitement in the competition rounds.

Besides, the representative of the Viet Nam Golf Association said that the Vietnamese athletes participating in this year’s tournament are also professional ones in the national team.

This year, the Viet Nam Golf Association has invited countries in the region in a step to promote the common golf movement in Southeast Asia. Such countries as Thailand and Malaysia has sent top athletes to the upcoming tournament.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Thao, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, the continuous organisation of the Da Nang Golf Tourism Festival creates opportunities for Vietnamese athletes, and professional golfers in particular, to improve their professional experience and have the opportunity to boost exchanges with high rankings in the region, and the world as a whole.

“Through the organisation of the festival, we hope that the number of participating golfers and their accompanying relatives who will come to the course to watch the athletes compete will significantly increase as compared to last year. “Hopefully, the event is highly expected to attract many tourists to Da Nang, thereby promoting its image, and Da Nang's infrastructure is increasingly known as a potential investment environment for tourism services. In the future, Da Nang will organise many outstanding events like that in a bid to attract even more tourists to Da Nang and host many bigger tournaments than this one," Mr. Thao said.

In addition to the main tournament BRG Open Golf Championship Da Nang 2023, the ongoing Da Nang Golf Tourism Festival 2023 also treats locals and visitors with a wide arrays of side activities at the city’s APEC Sculpture Garden Park so as to bring golf sport closer to the public. Notable among them was the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF)-organsied international seminar on golf industry and golf tourism in Da Nang.

Following the great success of the 2022 Da Nang Golf Tourism Festival, golf tourism products in Central Viet Nam have grown significantly. In the first half of 2023 only, local golf courses and surrounding areas served about 200,000 rounds of golf, equivalent to the whole year of 2022. This created a favourable premise and condition for golf tourism to become Da Nang’s main tourism product and bring attractive growth to the high-end tourist segment in the coming time.
