Efforts to turn Da Nang into attractive event - festival destination
Over the past time, Da Nang’s cultural sector has made remarkable developments, thereby gradually affirming culture being an important and indispensable pillar in the city’s development.
The Da Nang Asian Film Festival 2023 drew much attention from movie lovers and tourists at both home and abroad |
According to the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, professional and mass performing arts activities, exhibitions, festivals, contests and film screenings have been held regularly, especially on national holidays, Tet and major anniversaries of the city and the country, thereby creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere for locals and visitors.
A series of cultural events and festivals to serve the people and visitors have been organised such as hot air balloon festival, street carnival, and the first Da Nang Asian Film Festival in 2023.
Notably, a number of the city's major and annual events have been resumed after a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the Da Nang International Marathon, IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam Competition, and Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2023. Of this, many events have been organised by private businesses, making an important contribution to turning the city into an attractive destination of events and festivals in the country.
Notably, the management, preservation and promotion of historical and cultural values in the city have achieved positive results. Many historical, cultural and revolutionary relics in the locality have been restored and embellished. Particularly, the progress of projects on the restoration and embellishment of the Da Nang-located Dien Hai Citadel at the second stage, relocation of the Da Nang Museum from 24 Tran Phu Street to the former headquarters of the municipal People's Committee on Bach Dang Street, and the embellishment and restoration of the Hai Van Quan national relic are being accelerated.
Most prominently, ‘ma nhai’ (Inscriptions) at the Marble Mountains Tourist Area have been recognised as a documentary heritage under the UNESCO Memory of the World for the Asia-Pacific Region Programme.

The city is now home to a world documentary heritage, two special national relics, 7 national-level relics and 68 municipal-level sites.
In addition, the Department has regularly coordinated with the municipal Department of Education and Training to facilitate pupils and students to visit, and learn about history and traditional education at the city's cultural institutions, especially at museums.
Special attention has been paid to guiding and supporting localities to manage, protect, restore and embellish relics and cultural and religious establishments, as well as organising traditional festivals such as village communal house festivals and ‘Cau Ngu’ Festival.
According to Secretary of the Party Committee cum Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Pham Tan Xu, his agency will continue to coordinate with relevant units to successfully host major and annual cultural and sports events in the years ahead.
Importance will be attached to carrying out the restoration and embellishment of relics; as well as implementing a project on developing a system of grassroots cultural and sports institutions commensurate with the city's position by 2025.
