The Da Nang government has given the green-light to restoration and embellishment works on the ‘Mother Nhu and 7 Thanh Khe Heroes’ historical site under national protection. Located in Thanh Khe District’s Thanh Khe Dong Ward, the historic site is a tribute to Mother Nhu and the 7 brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the pursuit of national reunification. The site has become a popular destination for the education of local residents, especially the younger generations, about patriotism.

The restoration and embellishment works on this historical site will cost more than VND 1.7 billion, and will be carried out during the 2023 – 2025 period. This site has undergone two previous rounds of renovations: one in 2009 with a total cost of VND 2.8 billion funded by the city budget, and one in 2015 with a total cost of nearly 100 million VND from national budget.

Mr Pham Thanh Nam, the Chairman of the Thanh Khe Dong Ward People's Committee said that nestled in a small alley on Tran Cao Van Street, the more than 600 -square-meter historic site used to be an important revolutionary base in the key strategic triangle area of An Khe - Phu Loc - Thanh Khe during the Second District Revolutionary Movement. It was also used to be a secret shelter for revolutionary cadres and soldiers, plus a hidden storage for weapons and ammunition for the revolutionary force. This historic site was placed under national protection on December 28, 2009 in recognition of its great historical significance by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In recent years, the site has welcomed a large number of visitors paying tribute to Mother Nhu and the 7 brave soldiers. The third round of renovations on the historic site will contribute to preserving and promoting the value of this relic, so that this place will become the most popular destination in the city for the education of local residents, especially the younger generations in the ward and the city as a whole, about patriotism.

To mark the 55th anniversary of Mother Nhu and 7 Thanh Khe Heroes’ feat (December 26), the Thanh Khe District Authority has created a plan to promote the value of this relic, in which, special attention has been paid to digitalizing this site and creating QR codes for it in order to allow locals and tourists to scan the QR Code with their smartphones to get full, detailed and visual information about this place.

Besides, the district will continue to effectively implement its plan "Preserve and promote cultural heritage in the district in the 2022-2025 period and the following years" in a bid to promote historical relics under national and municipal protection to locals and tourists for education and economic purposes that allow to combine  the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage with tourism development.

Activities to promote historical relics and cultural heritage are carried out in association with extracurricular activities for local schools, including the emulation movement "Building friendly schools and active students", sightseeing, research and study activities, talking shows about revolutionary characters and events. In addition, education programs about patriotism are also organized through contests for making video clips and singing the national anthem at historical sites, and more.
