This was the second event in a series of activities under the museum education programme themed ‘Learning about Champa religious art’ for students majoring in history, culture, architecture, and tourism in the city in 2023.
To mark this occasion, the museum opened a special display space for participating lecturers and students to admire the statues of Bodhisattva Tara and Ganesha. These are two of the six national treasures being kept at the museum, as well as two original artifacts related to the Dong Duong Buddhist art.
The Dong Duong Buddhist art is the prominent art style of Champa from the late 4th to early 10th centuries, drawing much attention from researchers.
In 1902, the French School of the Far East excavated the Dong Duong relic, currently known as Binh Dinh Bac Commune, Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province. This place is considered the most important Buddhist center of the Champa kingdom. Some works collected from the excavation are currently kept and displayed at the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture.
