On Saturday, a delegation of Da Nang’s officials, led by municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong, visited the Quang Nam Museum based in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province, to receive 2 details of the Tara Bodhisattva statue.

Accordingly, the snail and the lotus flower of the Tara Bodhisattva statue were handed over to the Da Nang guests by leaders of the Quang Nam Museum. These items will be kept and preserved at the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture.

The Tara Bodhisattva statue was discovered by the people of Dong Duong Village, Binh Dinh Bac Commune, Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province, in 1978. The national treasure is currently preserved at the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture.

Since then, this treasure has always been preserved in the best condition. However, during the excavation process, two details of the lotus flower and the snail were broken. These two details have been preserved by the people of Dong Duong Village as local treasures for the past 45 years.

In late September 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province decided to transfer 2 related details of the Bodhisattva Tara statue to the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture.

The handover ceremony on Saturday afternoon made the "return" of two snail and lotus details of the Bodhisattva Tara Statue, affirming the good feelings between the people of Quang Nam and Da Nang in joining hands to preserve heritage in particular, and build and develop the two localities in general.

The Da Nang cultural sector has directed the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture to develop a plan to protect and promote the value of the national treasure, especially on display and introduction to serve the needs of learning, research, and sightseeing of people and tourists.

On the occasion, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong awarded Certificates of Merit to the authorities and people of Dong Duong Village for discovering, preserving and transferring two items of the national treasure to the authorities. The Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture presented the Quang Nam Museum a 1:1 scale version of the Bodhisattva Tara statue.
