In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year 2024 (early February 2024), the traveller support specialists of the Marble Mountains Tourist Site welcomed a special guest, Mr. Sowny, a U.S national. During his meeting with them, Mr. Sowny thanked them for the assistance they provide him while he was injured during his visit to this site in December 2022. At that time, he was injured when he accidentally fell down the mountain. Upon receiving a report of his accident, security guards on the mountain moved quickly to reach the scene to help him. The American injured tourist was taken to hospital in an ambulance by them after being received first aid care. After that, Mr. Sowny returned to his country because of his tight travel schedule. Therefore, during his trip coming back to Da Nang, he visited this site to thank its staff who helped him while he was injured.

“In a strange country, I received enthusiastic and thoughtful help from the staff of this tourist site. I recovered from my injury faster thanks to their timely support. I am so grateful to them for all they have done, and look forward to the day when I meet them again to thank them," Mr. Sowny said.

The Marble Mountains Tourist Site daily welcomes thousands of visitors. Hence, apart from ensuring security and order, along with environmental sanitation in this venue, its staff pay special attention to ensuring the safety of visitors, especially seniors and children.

Due to its high mountain terrain, visitors must climb many stairs to go up to the mountain to explore this tourist site. Therefore, visitors easily slip on a rainy day or they are more likely to get heat stroke, and low blood sugar, as well as suffer from other health problems in hot weather conditions while they are climbing up to the mountain. The site’s Management Board has set up a team available to help visitors in order to ensure assistance is provided for them in a timely manner.

Having worked for over 20 years in the Marble Mountains Tourist Site to ensure safety of locals and tourists while exploring the mountain peak, Mr. Le Dinh Binh, a security guard, shared that during his work he has encountered many cases from tourists who were in need of help from him as they lost their bags, wallets, phones, and other personal items or had health problems. Especially, he moves quickly to reach the scene to help any visitors who get low blood sugar by providing them with a soft drink, and  asking for help from his colleagues to support stretchers and equipment when needed in order to carry them down the mountain to the ambulance .

Furthermore, there were many cases from injured tourists as they broke their leg after a slip and fall accident. The security guards gave first aid care for the injured, and use the stretcher to take them down the mountain to bring them to hospital for further treatment.

There are many cases from injured foreigners, requiring 6-8 Vietnamese people to take turns to carry them down the mountain on stretchers to the ambulance.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, the Head of the Management Board of The Marble Mountains special national-level relic site, said that the site’s staff are performing their daily duties well while doing a great job at helping tourists when needed. In recent years, many tourists, especially foreigners, who left their belongings behind, have asked for help from the Management Board. They were so grateful to the Board’s staff after their lost items, including phones, cash and important personal documents were returned to them.

According to Mr. Hien, visitor support service is very necessary for outdoor tourist spots like the Marble Mountains.

Currently, the management board assigns two specialized employees who are constantly on duty at the top of the mountain to support tourists but specialized groups and teams will be also present to help tourists as needed. In 2023, the Management Board’s staff returned lost items to their owners who are 26 tourists, and supported 19 others who had health problems while climbing up the mountain or taking photos.

The Management Board has also placed 5 first aid cabinets in its office, and the Am Phu (Hell) Cave, plus 3 others along the climbing path in an attempt to provide timely help to visitors when needed.

“We identify visitor support as one of our key tasks as the safety and happiness of tourists during their visit to this scenic spot will help brand it as a safe, friendly and hospitable tourist destination," Mr. Nguyen Van Hien remarked.
