Over 300 domestic and international athletes took part in the openwater swimming championship, and the Danang SUP Race 2024, both themed “Across The Summer Waves - Da Nang 2024” at the Pham Van Dong Beach on Sunday.

More than 300 domestic and international athletes participated in the openwater swimming championship, and the Danang SUP Race on the morning of April 28.

Co-organised by the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches and some relevant units, the events were part of a series of the opening programme of the ongoing Da Nang Beach Tourism Season 2024.

The sports events aimed to promote the development of sports movement in the city, as well as raise public awareness of sports practice to improve health, protect themselves and prevent drowning accidents.

At the same time, they greatly contributed to maintaining and developing swimming and SUP rowing in the city, thereby contributing to creating a variety of cultural and sports activities during the tourist season, and advertising the image of Da Nang beach tourism to tourists at both home and abroad.

During the swimming championship, contestants competed in the men’s 2,000m category and the women’s 1,000m category, depending on the age groups of 14 - 19 years old, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59 and 60 - 69 .

As for the SUP race, athletes completed a distance of 2km.

In addition to the main prizes, the organisers awarded ‘Inspiration Awards’ to the youngest and oldest contestants.
