A ceremony was held in Da Nang on Saturday to see off the sports delegation of the city to the 10^th National Phu Dong Sports Festival which will take place in Quang Nam Province and Hai Phong City.

Attending the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Ky Minh said that the city's sports movement in general and physical education in schools in particular have increasingly prospered in recent years. Cultural and sports activities are regularly organised in diverse forms, attracting the participation of a large number of students and people.

The growth of physical education and sports movements not only creates a healthy atmosphere but also demonstrates the care and concern of families and society for the training and fostering of the young generation in order to meet the goals of education, and building and protecting the homeland in the new period.

In the past 9 editions of National Phu Dong Sports Festival, the city has always been one of top localities with good achievements and high rankings.

At the 9^th National Phu Dong Sports Festival, the city won 74 gold, 79 silver and 107 bronze medals, ranking 4^th out of the 63 participating provinces and cities.

“Hopefully, with the special attention of leaders at all levels, the careful preparation of the interdisciplinary Education and Sports sector, and the great efforts and strong determination of athletes and coaches, the city’s sports delegation will achieve the best results” Mr. Minh remarked.

He also suggested the municipal Department of Education and Training, the local Department of Culture and Sports, and relevant groups and individuals, continue to pay attention and create all conditions for students to have the best spirit and physical strength in the festival.

The 10^th National Phu Dong Health Festival in 2024 will be divided into two phases, with the first phase to be held in Quang Nam Province from June 10 - 20 and the second phase in Hai Phong City from July 25 - August 6.

In the first phase, 214 pupils athletes and 36 coaches and teachers will compete in basketball, table tennis, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, and swimming.

In the second phase, 265 athletes, along with 69 coaches and teachers will compete in basketball, table tennis, badminton, soccer, aerobics, swimming, chess, karate, taekwondo, Vovinam, and traditional martial arts.
