Late in the afternoon, the atmosphere of practice and competition at the basketball class organised by the Da Nang Basketball Development Centre (BDC) begins to become more bustling.
Tran Van Khanh, a pupil of the Ly Thuong Kiet Junior High School based in Hai Chau District, said "I play many kinds of sports, but basketball is my favourite sport. Every summer, I register to study basketball at BDC. This is the third year in a row I have participated in basketball courses here. Not only does it improve my physical strength, agility, and dexterity, playing basketball also helps me feel comfortable and confident to prepare for the new school year".
Established in 2017, BDC is now one of the fitness and sports units with professional and quality training facilities and human resources in the city.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tuong Minh, Director of DBC, the unit regularly recruits trainees and organises basketball classes. During the summer, the number of trainees is very large. Currently, the centre has more than 300 pupils aged from 9-18.
In addition to advanced classes for those with experience in playing basketball, there are basic classes for those who do not know much about this kind of sports.
The centre aims to build a useful and healthy playground, creating conditions for children to develop physically and mentally. In order to provide the highest quality training, the centre coordinates with units and localities to organise basketball tournaments for students of all ages, Mr. Minh noted.
Additionally, the local sports industry organises many sports playgrounds for pupils and students during the summer.
Similarly, swimming, vovinam and dance classes at the Cultural and Sports Centre of Thanh Khe District attract a large number of pupils.
In addition to such classes, children have the opportunity to participate in exciting physical games.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dao, a resident of Thac Gian Ward, Thanh Khe District, said "To have a meaningful summer, I registered my son to learn Vovinam at the centre. With the Vovinam course, I witness my child's physical development. If he wants to try another sport, I will support and accompany him".
In a similar vein, the bustling sports practicing atmosphere is recorded at the Culture - Information and Sports Centre of Ngu Hanh Son District which boasts its modern facilities and equipment for physical training and sports activities.
In response to this year's Action Month for Children, the Da Nang Children's Cultural Palace has recently organised two free swimming courses for more than 100 pupils in difficult circumstances in the city.
Truong Thi Thao Nhi, a pupil from the Tay Son Junior High School based in Hai Chau District, said that "I am very happy and excited to take a free swimming course at the Da Nang Children's Cultural Palace. Not only did I have fun with friends, I was taught basic swimming knowledge and techniques, and drowning prevention and water safety skills".
According to Mr. Nguyen Nhan, Director of the Da Nang Children's Cultural Palace, the free swimming courses for poor pupils are held every year. After finishing such courses, trainees receive safe swimming certificates.
