Viet Nam tops 2024 ASEAN Schools Games medal tally

As of late June 4, the sports delegation of Vietnamese students had stayed top of the ongoing 13th ASEAN Schools Games medal tally in Da Nang with 18 gold medals, 10 silver and 4 bronze.

It was followed by Thailand (6 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze medals), Malaysia (4 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals), the Philippines (4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals), and Indonesia (3 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals).

Specifically, Vietnamese swimmers grabbed five golds. Trinh Tuong Vinh topped in the men’s 200m backstroke event. Duong Van Hoang Quy, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, Mai Tran Tuan Anh and Nguyen Quang Thuan took a gold medal in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay event.

Meanwhile, Vu Thi Phuong Anh, Le Thi Thuy Trang, Nguyen Ngoc Tuyet Han, and Nguyen Thuy Hien bagged gold in women’s 4x200m freestyle relay event. In addition, Nguyen Thuy Hien scored double gold medals in the women's 50m breaststroke and freestyle events.

Along with swimming, athletics continued to have successful competition days.

Specifically, Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh won the gold medal and Nguyen Khanh Linh won the silver medal in the women's 1,500m run event. Nguyen Thanh Phat secured the gold in the men's high jump event.

Ha Thi Thuy Hang took the gold, and Le Thi Nhu Quynh won the silver in the women's long jump event.

Le Thi Tuyet Mai grabbed the gold in the women's 400m run, while Vu Ngoc Khanh achieved the silver in the men's 400m run event.

In pencak silat, athletes Nguyen Thanh Long and Hoang Linh Dan took gold medals in the performance event after defeating athletes from Indonesia and the Philippines respectively in the finals.

Aside from the abovementioned swimming, athletics and pencak silat, basketball, badminton, and vovinam competitions took place fiercely and excitingly on June 4.

Today, June 5, Viet Nam’s female and male basketball teams met Thailand and the Philippine respectively in the semi-finals.
