A ceremony was held at the Ariyana Convention Centre Danang on Tuesday to open the second Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF II) in 2024.

Delivering his speech at the opening ceremony of the festival, municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh said that DANAFF II, which is scheduled to take place until July 6, offered with many interesting activities, contributing to spreading good cultural values ​​and honouring Vietnamese cinema.

With the orientation of building the brand "City of events and festivals", DANAFF II continues to be expected to become the city’s outstanding festival product. This is an important activity in developing cultural industries, including cinema. This contributes to promoting the image, culture and tourism of the city to international friends, and making Da Nang a city of film events.

Chairman Le Trung Chinh expressed his hope that DANAFF II will be a bridge for filmmakers, actors, and audiences at home and abroad to exchange, learn and cooperate in cinema.

At the same time, it is a good opportunity for the city's film industry to meet and approach leading experts from Asian countries and France's long-standing cinema industry, he added.

DANAFF II is directed by the municipal People's Committee and co-organised by the city’s Department of Culture and Sports, the Viet Nam Film Development Association along with other partners.

In particular, the opening, closing and awards ceremonies of the festival will be broadcast live on VTV8 and VTV2 channels, and provincial and municipal television stations nationwide.

Mrs. Ngo Phuong Lan, Chairwoman of the Viet Nam Film Development Association cum Director of DANAFF II, said that this is the first film festival in Viet Nam to be held annually. It attracted famous Vietnamese cinematographers and actors.

Notably, the festival featured a packed event schedule full of in-depth discussions and prominent guest judges. Also, the "Talent Nurturing" Workshop for acting enthusiasts continued to bring fresh and youthful vitality to DANAFF II, she noted.
