Aside from traditional activities, the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival in 2024 (DANAFF II) will feature an array of new, outstanding ones such as French cinema, screening films to pay tribute to Vietnamese director Dang Nhat Minh, and related seminars, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong made the remarks at the press conference held in the city on Monday.

According to Vice Chairman Cuong, films participating in this year’s festival are selected from many different cinema backgrounds, promising to bring audiences new and impressive experiences.

One of the highlights at the festival will be a programme on screening famous non-competition cinematographic works in France, South Korea and other foreign countries.

At the same time, there will be exchange activities between the film crew and the audience, and meetings with movie stars.

“The festival’s organisation board hopes that DANAFF II will be a cultural and artistic bridge between countries in the Asia-Pacific region, a creative playground for young film talents, and the good opportunity for filmmakers and audiences to meet, share and build new relationships, thereby contributing to promoting the development of the regional and Da Nang film industry, the city leader expressed.

DANAFF II, being held in the central coastal city from July 2 to 6, is presided over by the municipal People's Committee and co-organised by the city’s Department of Culture and Sports, the Viet Nam Film Development Association (VFDA) along with other partners.

In particular, the opening, closing and awards ceremonies of the festival will be broadcast live on VTV8 and VTV2 channels, and provincial and municipal television stations nationwide.

The free screening of 63 participating films takes place at the Le Do, CGV, Galaxy, Starlight cinemas, and some outdoor locations such as the Lien Chieu District Administrative Centre Park on July 3, the semicircle of Nhu Nguyet Street on July 4, and Bach Dang Walking Street on July 5.

In particular, for the first time in Viet Nam, DANAFF II will award the Cinema Achievement Award to an excellent filmmaker who has made many contributions to cinema.

Another highlight of the film festival is the competition of films in two categories: Asian films and Vietnamese films, with a jury of experts in the field of Vietnamese and international cinema.

In addition, this year’s festival attracts many famous domestic and international artists and filmmakers, including People's Artist Le Khanh, People's Artist Nhu Quynh, People's Artist Lan Huong, actor Doan Quoc Dam, and actor Jeon So Min.
