The 10^th National Phu Dong Sports Games in 2024 is taking place in Hai Phong with the participation of sports delegations from 63 provinces and cities across the country. The Da Nang sports delegation sets a target of being among the top finishers.

The 10^th National Phu Dong Sports Games in 2024 sees the participation of more than 10,000 athletes, coaches, and caregivers from 63 provinces and cities nationwide, competing for 217 sets of medals in 15 sports.

This sporting event is an opportunity for pupils nationwide to exchange, learn, share experiences and raise awareness of sports training and physical development, as well as helps strengthen solidarity and cooperation among participating units.

The sports delegation of Da Nang has more than 260 athletes, plus 69 coaches and teachers. They compete in basketball for male, female senior high school pupils; table tennis for male, female senior high school pupils; badminton for male, female senior high school pupils; soccer for male senior high school pupils; aerobics for male, female senior high school pupils; swimming for male, female senior high school pupils; chess for male, female primary, and junior and senior high schoolers; Karate for male, female junior and senior high school pupils; Taekwondo for male, female junior and senior high school pupils; Vovinam for male, female junior and senior high school pupils; and traditional martial arts for male, female junior and senior high school pupils.

In preparation for the National Phu Dong Sports Games, local pupils practiced hard to improve their professional skills. In chess, 14 male and 14 female athletes were facilitated to practice regularly at the Da Nang Chess Club before entering the competition. They are excellent players selected through chess championships and Phu Dong Sports Games at all levels.

Nguyen Tuyet Linh, a member of the city’s pupil chess team, said that she was very happy to be selected for the city team to compete in this year’s national Phu Dong Sports Games. “This is an opportunity for me to have fun and interact with friends. Playing sports helps me relax and study better. Hopefully, I will gain good results, contributing to the overall success of the city's student sports delegation” she added.

According to Mrs. Phan Thi Thu Huong, Head of the Da Nang pupil chess team, the chess movement is developing strongly throughout the country, especially in schools. At this year’s Phu Dong Sports Games, more than 800 athletes from various localities are seen participating in, so the level of competition is very high. However, the local pupils are all confident and comfortable at the competition thanks to their careful preparation.

Along with chess, the city’s senior high school football team is determined to achieve high results at this year’s sporting event. The team consists of 20 players who were carefully selected and practiced hard at the Da Nang Sports and Gymnastics Athletes Training Centre.

Nguyen Van Hieu, a member of the senior high school football team, shared "I am very happy to participate in the National Phu Dong Sports Games for the first time. The coaching staff created very good conditions for me and my teammates to practice. I will try my best to bring glory to the city".

Mr. Nguyen Quang Quoc Cong, Head of the city's senior high school football team, said that before participating in the games, the team played friendly matches with Quang Nam and Hue. The team's goal is to strive to achieve good results.

According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Trong Thao, the Phu Dong Sports Games is a meaningful playground for pupils to improve their skills.

He added that in the previous Phu Dong Sports Games, the city has always been one of the localities with good achievements and high rankings.

At the 9^th edition of the sports event, the city ranked 4^th out of the 63 participating provinces and cities with 74 gold, 79 silver and 107 bronze medals. This is the motivation for the city's pupil sports delegation to continue to strive for the best results.
