Da Nang high-performance sports strive to complete target
Da Nang’s high-performance sports have made a plan in preparation for the 10th National Sports Games and the 33rd SEA Games.

Impressive number of medals
In recent years, Da Nang high-performance sports have affirmed their position in national championships.
In particular, in 2022, the city’s sports delegation ranked 5th at the 9th National Sports Games. In 2023, local athletes won 218 gold, 212 silver and 290 bronze medals at domestic and international tournaments.
Since the beginning of 2024, the city’s delegation of high-performance sports have competed in more than 100 national-level tournaments in 36 sports. As a result, local athletes have grabbed 216 gold, 202 silver and 271 bronze medals. Although there are still a number of national tournaments in 2024, Da Nang’s high-performance sports have exceeded its target of winning 180 sets of medals.
Among the successful competitions, Taekwondo athletes left an impression when winning 4 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals at the Taekwondo Youth Group Championship and the Taekwondo Club Championship.
According to coach Tran Viet Duc, Da Nang’s Taekwondo athletes have strived to compete and achieved good results. Currently, they are preparing for the National Taekwondo Championship scheduled to take place in late October. With the current Taekwondo team's strength, if they train and compete on schedule, they can achieve higher results in important national sports arenas.
Along with Taekwondo, local swimmers have contributed 23 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze medals at the National 25m-pool Swimming and Diving Championship, the Youth Age Group Swimming Championship, and the Youth Swimming Championship.
At the recently-ended National Traditional Martial Arts Championship 2024, the Da Nang traditional martial arts team has achieved excellent results and finished in the second place with 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals. In addition, the athletics, weightlifting, canoeing, rowing, taekwondo, boxing, bodybuilding and basketball all have had valuable gold medals.
Towards important tournaments
The result exceeding the set medal target is a great effort of Da Nang coaches and high-performance athletes. This is the motivation for Da Nang sports to set higher goals in upcoming important tournaments.
Specifically, in addition to the national championships, Da Nang sports are aiming for two important tournaments: the 33rd SEA Games in 2025 in Thailand and the 10th National Sports Games in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026.
In 2022, Da Nang won 34 gold, 42 silver and 50 bronze medals at the 9th National Sports Games. At the SEA Games in 2023, the city's sports took 8 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals.
According to the Da Nang Sports and Gymnastics Athletes Coaching and Training Centre, to maintain its position and the number of medals at the two aforementioned tournaments in the coming time, key sports such as rowing, karate, athletics, taekwondo and swimming will continue to receive key investment.
In rowing, the city's athletes who are called up to national teams such as Pham Thi Hue, Nguyen Lam Kieu Diem, Tran Thi Kiet, Pham Chung and Vo Nhu Sang (rowing), Vo Duy Thanh and Nguyen Van Tien (kayaking) or Hien Nam, Y Khoer Nie, Tran Thanh Cuong, Nguyen Tuong Duy (canoeing) are given the opportunity to train and compete regularly.
In addition, athletics athletes, including Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc, Nguyen Thanh Ngung, Vo Xuan Vinh, Bien Van Anh (20km walk), Tran Thi Loan (long jump and triple jump), Nguyen Pham Hoai Yen (pole vault), maintain stable performances and are capable of competing for medals.
Deputy Director in charge of the Da Nang Sports and Gymnastics Athletes Coaching and Training Centre Tran Do Quang emphasised the importance of increasing investment in sports facilities in achieving the best results at the national and international sports tournaments in addition to selecting athletes and improving the quality of training, improving.
