Sport tourism flourishes in Da Nang
With many favourable conditions, sports associated with tourism have widely spread throughout Da Nang, attracting a large number of people and tourists to compete in and experience.

In the new phase of its physical education and sports development plan, the city continues to strongly develop recreational, beach and adventure sports such as paragliding, windsurfing, golf, marathon, and ironman 70.3.
Most tourists visiting Da Nang are impressed by the long-stretching and beautiful beaches. The beaches in Da Nang are a haven for surfing, jet skiing, kayaking and other water sports.
In recent days, local beaches are crowded with tourists who come to experience surfing in the cold rainy season.
At 7:00 am at the My An Beach in Ngu Hanh Son District, young people and foreign tourists from South Korea, the US and Australia are seen going surfing.
Having gone surfing in Da Nang for the first time, Mr. Jesse Anderson from the US could not hide his excitement. He shared that he played many adventure sports, of which surfing on the sea was his favourite. Coming to Da Nang for travel purpose, he was surprised to meet many people with the same hobby. Beaches in Da Nang are so beautiful and clean, so they are suitable for playing watersports.
Due to the high demands of players, many shops have offered surfboard rental services. Thanks to this adventure sport, Da Nang beaches become more bustling, and the city attracts more visitors during the cold rainy season. Moreover, other types of watersports such as SUP and paragliding are drawing much attention from city dwellers and tourists.
Mr. Tran Dai Nghia, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches, highlighted the development potential of beach sports associated with tourism. The city always encourages and creates conditions for people and tourists to participate in these sports.
The municipal People's Committee assigns the Department of Tourism to direct the Management Board to coordinate with relevant units to carry out management work, and regularly propagate and patrol to remind sports players to raise awareness and ensure their own safety.
Aside from beach sports, in order to diversify sports activities and attract tourists, the city has developed other sports such as golf, marathon, ironman 70.3, etc. Since early 2024, the city has hosted nearly 20 national and international-level sports events, attracting many tourists, athletes, and coaches.
To become an ideal destination for sports tournaments, the city has concentrated on improving the scale and organisation methods to attract the public. In particular, the organisation of outdoor sports activities has breathed a "new wind" into sports tournaments.
Competing in the VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam 2024 in Da Nang, the largest triathlon race in the country, Mr. Truong Van Son from Ho Chi Minh City shared “I really like to come to Da Nang for tourism and sports. I have participated in the last 3 IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam seasons, and have had interesting experiences with my friends. I think Da Nang has many favourable conditions to develop sports activities like this”.
In the new phase of its physical training and sports development plan, the city continues to host major sports activities in the region, continent and the world, as well as strongly develop sports events associated with tourism, especially recreational sports activities, beach sports and adventure sports like paragliding, golf, marathon, ironman 70.3. According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Trong Thao, with a variety of sports associated with tourism, tourists have many options for entertainment and experiences when coming to Da Nang. In winter, tourists can play windsurfing on the sea or jogging.
In the coming time, the sports sector will continue to host large-scale sports tournaments and events to spread the sports movement in the community and advertise the image of the city to domestic and foreign tourists, he added.
Currently, the city's infrastructure ensures good organisation of events. In addition, the municipal People's Committee recently approved the investment policy for the project to develop a park and a coastal sports club, and upgrade Son Thuy Beach in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District with a total investment of more than VND34.6 billion.
This new project, set to begin in 2024 and run through 2026, aims to enhance recreational, sports, and beach amenities for the locals.
The development is also expected to serve as a training hub for high-performance coastal sports athletes, promote physical fitness, encourage the growth of beach sports, and boost the city’s tourism sector.
