On Thursday, some of Da Nang’s leaders and thousands of local pupils attended opening ceremonies for the 2013 - 2014 academic year. 

In his speech at the opening ceremony at Le Quy Don Senior High School for Gifted Students, the municipal Party Secretary, Mr Tran Tho, extended his best wishes to the school’s teaching staff and pupils.  He stressed the need for them to make innovations in teaching and learning methodology, and improve the quality of education during this new school year.

The city leader added that the prime focus should be on enhancing the ethical standards of the pupils and educating them on life skills.  Special attention should be paid to improving foreign language skills, as well as striving to win more prizes in national and international competitions for excellent students.

The city’s education sector, the only unit of 5 centrally-governed cities in emulation area No 7, received an excellent emulation banner from the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training for its significant achievements over the last academic year.  This has given a strong impetus for the development of local education during this next school year.
