The national qualifying round of the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championships (MOSWC) 2014 took place on Saturday in 6 cities and provinces across the country.  The contestants competed in three categories - Excel 2010, PowerPoint 2010 and Word 2010.

The central coast region qualifier was held at Da Nang’s Dong A University, and it saw hundreds of contestants from universities, colleges and senior high schools in the city and elsewhere in the central coast region.

The final round of the national MOSWC 2014 will be held on 26 April in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, involving 90 outstanding contestants selected from the regional qualifiers.  The eventual winners of each category will become MOS 2014 ambassadors and will represent Viet Nam in the international final round.

This will be held between 27 and 30 July at Disneyland, California, in the USA.  5,000 USD, 2,500 USD and 1,000 USD in cash prizes will be awarded to the contestants finishing in first, second and third places respectively.

The Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) is a test to measure a candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience in managing and using the different MS Office applications and the Windows operating system.

MOSWC has been organised across the world for the past 13 years by USA’s Certiport, a pioneer in providing complete career-oriented certification solutions to academic institutions and IT professionals.

This is the 5th time that Viet Nam has participated in MOSWC.  In this country, the tests and curriculums are compiled by IIG, the national partner and sole representative of Certiport.

Phan Tien Dung, a student from the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, won the bronze prize in the Word 2010 category at MOSWC 2013.  In 2012, Tran Dinh Vi from the same university as Dung brought home the gold medal in the same category.
