The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Viet Nam branch of the Hitachi Company have given their assistance to help Da Nang implement the “Application of Information Technology in Disaster Mitigation” project.

In particular, a lot of equipment has been donated to the city’s Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and Mitigation, Search and Rescue, which will ensure smoother communications between the committee and local districts.  In addition, local residents and relevant agencies now find it very easy to access disaster-related information, warnings, and announcements from the committee via popular social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

In an emergency involving a natural disaster, local residents are encouraged to send images and information to the committee to help them to promptly and effectively handle their problems.

Storm Nari devastates the city in October 2013
