On Thursday, the US Science Envoy, Ms Geraldine L Richmond, met with some students from Da Nang’s University of Technology.  The students are attending the university’s training programme, taught in English, for developing qualified engineers.

This was part of her visit to Viet Nam to mark the 20th anniversary of the normalisation of US-Viet Nam relations (1995 - 2015).

Ms Richmond affirmed that her visit aimed to boost the bilateral scientific and educational cooperation between the USA and Viet Nam.  She also promised that she, and other US science envoys in the years ahead, would continue to pay visits to Viet Nam in order to learn more about its scientific and educational sectors.  This will help the US Government to develop proper plans for promoting long-term bilateral cooperation programmes with Viet Nam.

During her talk with the Da Nang students, Ms Richmond also highlighted the important role of soft skills such as interpersonal communication, along with experience in writing job applications and sending emails to foreign professors.  These valuable skills will help to promote career paths for local students after they graduate from university.

The US expert also spoke highly of the Da Nang university’s training programmes, especially its effective internships for students in local businesses.  This will create opportunities for interns to practise their skills and improve their personal qualifications.
