Thousands of people will have a chance to receive scholarships to study in Ph.D. programs abroad under a project of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.

The education ministry has recently announced that it is recruiting 1,300 candidates for Ph.D. training programs in numerous foreign countries in 2015, as part of Project 911 on training Ph.D. instructors for universities and colleges in Viet Nam in the 2010- 2020 period.

Project 911 sets a target that Viet Nam will have at least 20,000 more Ph.D. degree holders by 2020, half of which will be trained in reputable universities and colleges around the world in order to increase the number of Ph.D. instructors as well as improve educational quality in the country.

The 1,300 successful candidates will be sent to countries including the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, and others.

They will study such majors as natural sciences, technical-technological sciences, social sciences, agriculture-forestry-fisheries, pharmacy, economics-management, and arts-sports.

During the time they spend studying overseas, successful candidates will receive a scholarship funded by the State budget, including tuition (a maximum of US$15,000 per year), required fees related to the training program, cost of living, health insurance, fees for passports and visas, and others.

But successful candidates will have to pay VND13-52 million (US$606-2,423), depending on the duration of their studies, to the government when they carry out procedures to officially enroll in their school.

Eligible candidates are instructors working at educational institutes, universities and colleges in Viet Nam, as well as bachelor and master degree holders graduating within 12 months by the day they apply for the scholarship.

All candidates are required to be younger than 45.

Successful candidates have to commit themselves to finishing the training program and returning to work for the schools which send them abroad.
