The annual Kovalevskaya 2014 awards, honouring outstanding female scientists, will be presented on March 7 in Ha Noi, according to the Viet nam Women’s Union.

A number of female staff from the Ha Noi Medical University’s histology and embryology department will receive an award for their project researching cell technology to cure ocular surface damage.

The individual prize will be awarded to Professor Doctor Nguyen Thi Kim Lan from the Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, a leading veterinary specialist with numerous applicable research studies helping famers fight diseases in cattle.

The Kovalevskaya 2014 award ceremony is part of events to celebrate the 105^th anniversary of International Women’s Day (March 8).

The prestigious prize, named after the great Russian female mathematician Sofia Kovalevskaia, is awarded to female academics with excellent achievements in the sciences or arts and humanities. The Vietnamese Kovalevskaia awards were established in 1985.
