Total lunar eclipse to occur on April 4 evening
Astronomy aficionados in Viet Nam will have the chance to enjoy a total lunar eclipse, as visible on the evening of April 4.
Stages of total lunar eclipse |
The lunar eclipse will occur from 4:01 pm to 9:59 pm. The partial eclipse will begin at 5:15 pm and last until 8:44 pm, and the moon will be totally eclipsed from 6:57 pm to 7:02 pm.
Tran Van Long, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi Amateur Astronomy Association, said the last total lunar eclipse in Vietnam was on October 8 last year.
Star gazers in the country will see a partial lunar eclipse on August 8, 2017, but the next total lunar eclipse will not be visible in Vietnam until January 31, 2018, he noted.
The weather in Ha Noi for the evening of April 4 is expected to be favourable for observing the total eclipse, Long said, adding that his association’s members will witness this occasion at the My Dinh National Stadium.
Viewers can see the eclipse with the naked eye, but are advised to use binoculars or telescopes for a better view.
