Outstanding pupils honoured

On Wednesday, 174 out of over 600 typical outstanding pupils from primary to senior high schools across the city were honoured for their excellent achievements in the academic year 2014 – 2015.

Amongst the honourees was Le Thi Nguyet Hang from Year 12 of the Le Quy Don Senior High School for Gifted Students.  Hang won a silver medal at the 25th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in Bali, Indonesia in July 2014.  She will compete at the 26th IBO which will take place in Denmark from 12 -19 July 2015.

Over the past academic year, the city’s education sector has recorded many remarkable achievements.  In particular, 48 local students won prizes in the National Contest for Excellent Students which ran between 8 - 10 January.  They brought home 13 second prizes, 17 thirds, and 18 commendation prizes.

In addition, 1 second, 2 third, and 3 commendation prizes were awarded to local pupils at the National Science and Technology Contest for High School Students held in March. 

The city’s students took 1 second, 4 third, and 3 commendation prizes at the Mathematics on Handheld Computers Contest in the central region and highlands.

Addressing the event, the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, said that the city is striving for a perfect education system to develop local high-quality managers, and scientific and technological staff in order to meet the requirements of the city’s industrialisation and modernisation progress and its global integration.  This will contribute significantly to making Da Nang become an economic, cultural and educational hub of the central region.
