On Tuesday, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho received a delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), led by its Minister Nguyen Quan.

Minister Quan asked the city leaders and local relevant agencies to give financial aid to local businesses in order to help them accelerate progress on technological innovations.  He also urged the municipal Department of Science and Technology to create a local science and technology development programme until 2020.  In addition, he asked the department to make suggestions to the city authorities about promoting the development of the local science and technology sector.

Chairman Duc Tho highlighted the vital role of science and technology in local socio-economic development.  He vowed that the local authorities would create very favourable conditions for projects developed by MOST to be implemented effectively in the city.  The city leader also took the opportunity to ask the Ministry to assist his city in fully tapping its science and technology potential in the immediate future.

Da Nang has seen numerous positive results in its science and technology sector during the 2010 - 2015 period.  In particular, many support programmes for local businesses have been implemented to help them improve their technological skills and develop their technological markets.

Over the period, the focus has also been on assisting local businesses to promote their intellectual property development.  In addition, heed has been paid to ensuring nuclear safety and radiation control and to increasing checks and tightening the management of local weights and measures systems and the quality of local products. 

Importance has been attached to raising public awareness of science and technology, and establishing the Science and Technology Development Fund in the city.
