Science and technology play a vital role in enhancing the labour productivity and competitiveness of Da Nang’s businesses.  However, the city’s science and technology market has yet to be fully tapped to ensure its supply-demand links.

Mr Tran Quang Trong, Director of the company Mien Trung (Central Region) Industrial Machinery and Equipment, remarked that his business was keenly interested in conducting research into new technological products and bringing them to fruition.  Included are packing devices, industrial vacuum cleaners, and sheet and purlin laminating machines.  However, he underlined that his business usually manages to advertise and sell its innovative products itself because the demand for this type of the technological product is still modest.

The Director of the local Chau Da company, Mr Trung Dung, said that his company has created many technological items such as cutting tools and industrial automation equipment.  Over recent years, his company has found it very hard to expand its consumer markets.

Engineer Phan Dinh Phuong, Director of the An Sinh Xanh Science and Technology company, highlighted the significance of a strong consumer market for scientific and technological products to encourge the creation of more new products.

The Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology, Mr Huynh Van Ngo, said that the local authorities will issue more preferential policies for local scientists and engineers to facilitate their research into their new products.  This will in turn provide local businesses with more opportunities to access new innovations.  In addition, one focus will be on establishing a technology transference club, and organising more dialogues between the city leaders and local businesses on a monthly or quarterly basis to help them overcome their difficulties in renewing technology.
