The news was released at a recent meeting to review the performance of the city’s education and training sector over the 2015 - 2016 academic year.

Over recent years, a focus was on building schools, rooms for special subjects, and libraries, all meeting the national standards.  To date, 47.6% of the city’s schools at all levels have been recognised as meeting the national standards, and 86.9% the city’s school libraries have also met these standards.

The total of tuition fees collected from local school pupils is expected to reach 14.4 billion VND for the upcoming academic year.  A total of 347 billion VND from the city’s budget will be spent on constructing 97 educational facilities this year.

Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung has highly praised the local education and training sector for its remarkable achievements over the past academic year.

He stressed the need to improve the living conditions of local pre-school teachers, deal with the current severe shortage of public pre-schools for children, and train local school teachers to meet the national teaching standards.

Greater efforts will be made to ensure that 50% of the city’s schools will meet the national education quality standards, and 100% of the city’s primary school pupils will study 2 sessions per day.  Also, stronger measures will be taken to reach the target of no local pupils quitting schools as part of the city’s ‘5 No’s,’ campaign.

Importance will also be attached to improving the quality of teaching English in particular, and other foreign languages as a whole, improving essential life skills for local pupils, and ensuring daily nutrition for local pre-school and primary school pupils.  Employment consultancy services will also be promoted.
