Deputy Prime Minister Dam also agreed to the establishment of three new universities - Technical Education, Information Technology (IT) and Communications, and Viet Nam-UK, all under the direct management of the UDN. He also proposed that the new universities should be founded through the integration of existing local education facilities and use their human resources, with a focus on ensuring high-quality training programmes.
The Director of the UDN, Professor Tran Van Nam, remarked that the UDN has developed specific plans to establish the new universities. In detail, the existing faculties of IT in the universities of Education, Economics, and the Junior College of IT will be merged into the University of IT and Communications. Meanwhile, the University of Technical Education will be founded based on a merger between the current faculties of Technical Education at the University of Technology and at the Junior College of Technology.
Professor Nam also suggested that the national government should consider plans to deploy the city’s University Village project, and entrust autonomy for the local universities. In particular, he noted that the autonomous mechanism would be first introduced in the University of Economics in 2017, followed by the remaining school members of the UDN in subsequent years.
