The ceremonies were attended by some of the city’s leaders who delivered congratulatory messages.

At the Hoang Sa Junior High School in Son Tra District, its Principal Mai Huyen Thu Hoai said, “The school has a total of 545 pupils, and the majority of them are children of local fishermen or officers and men from the naval and border guard forces.  In addition, many of the school’s teachers are wives of naval soldiers on duty safeguarding the country’s sovereignty over its sea and islands”.

The school has recently been established following a decision issued by the Son Tra District People’s Committee on 27 May this year.  It is the first school in the city to have been named after the Hoang Sa island district, which is now under the administrative management of Da Nang.

To mark the school’s new academic year, municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri presented scholarships, valued at 2 million VND each, to 5 of the school’s poor studious pupils.

In addition, the city’s branch of Prudential Viet Nam Life Insurance Company donated 92 million VND to the school to help it build a library, and gave scholarships, worth 20 million VND in total, to 10 of its poor pupils.

The city’s Trung Nam company donated 20 computers, worth in total 147 million VND, whilst the municipal Advertising Association presented tables and chairs, valued at 20 million VND in total, for the school’s teachers’ room.

All teachers and pupils at the Vo Chi Cong Senior High School in Ngu Hanh Son District were very excited at the opening ceremony for the 2016 - 2017 academic year as it is the first academic year for the school.  The newly-established school has enrolled 195 grade 10 pupils so far, and it has 16 teachers and staff members.

The school’s Principal, teacher Pham Dinh Kha, thanked the city authorities and the municipal Department of Education and Training for their great support in helping the school build its modern infrastructure and develop skilled teachers and staff members.

Addressing the event, municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh beat a drum to begin the new school year.  The city leader also presented scholarships, funded by the city’s budget, to 5 of the school’s poor pupils in order to help them overcome their difficulties and pursue their academic dreams.

A similar ceremony at the Le Quy Don Senior High School for Gifted Students was attended by Head of the Department of Publicity and Training Nguyen Thanh Quang.

In the new academic year, the school will focus on promoting innovations in teaching methods and encouraging its teachers and pupils to conduct more scientific research.  Importance will also be attached to furthering the professionalism of the school’s academic environment, and ensuring a friendly attitude and behaviour amongst its teachers and pupils is maintained.
