YSEALI announces academic fellowship program for members from ASEAN countries

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is calling for applications for its 2017 Academic Fellows program.

The YSEALI Academic Fellowship brings current or recently graduated students from ASEAN member countries to the U.S. for various five-week institutes at pre-eminent U.S. universities and colleges.

The Fellowship’s institutes each focus on one of three themes including Civic Engagement, Environmental Issues, Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.

The five-week institutes consist of a balanced series of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, and lectures.

Applicants should be citizens or residents of ASEAN member countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam, and be between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of application.

They must be either full-time undergraduate students from college, university, or other institutions of higher learning or have graduated in the past four years.

Applicants must also be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.

The deadline to submit applications is 5:00 pm on October 17.

U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. are not allowed to participate in the program.
