After over 3 years of research, a group of lecturers from Da Nang’s Duy Tan University has created software which reveals the anatomy of a human body using virtual 3D.  This has allowed students from the university’s Medical Faculty to improve their studies and research into the human body.

Mr Le Van Chung, Head of the university’s Visual and Simulation Centre, said “Anatomy is an essential subject for medical students.  However, there is a severe lack of bodies donated for teaching work at this university and the other local educational institutions.  Therefore, his students had to study anatomy on models, 2D pictures, pirated foreign software, and formalin-soaked human body parts instead of real human bodies.”

He then came up with an idea to create virtual 3D human anatomy software in order to assist his students with their studies.  His idea immediately gained positive support from the university’s Principal Board.

Frequently over the past 3 years, Mr Chung and his 5 colleagues have visited Hue City to learn from the experiences of professors at the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in order to perfect their ‘spiritual son’ work.  Now completed, it has already won the first prize of 100 million VND in a recent national-level ‘Young Knowledge for Education’ contest.

Mr Bui Thanh Binh, lecturer in Duy Tan University’s Medical Faculty, proudly said “My students are now very excited about the ‘smart’ 3D software.  It allows them to more easily understand, visualise and observe the detailed parts of a human body.  They find it very easy to download this software onto their laptops and tablets to study.”
