In 2010, the student successfully passed the entrance exams for the Oil and Gas Major at the city’s University of Science and Technology in the hope that, after graduating, he would find a suitable job at the Dung Quat Oil Refinery near his home in Quang Ngai Province.

Three years later, Hieu found himself preferring economics rather than the technical aspects.  He quit his studies at the University of Science and Technology, and then successfully passed another entrance exam in 2013, but this time for a Major in Foreign Trade at the Da Nang University of Economics.

During his studies there, Hieu was awarded many scholarships.  These were Quang Ngai Province’s Pham Van Dong scholarships for 3 consecutive years, the ‘Students with National Sea and Islands’ scholarships, the ‘Studying Promotion’ scholarships for 5 consecutive semesters, and scholarships for poor and studious students over 2 consecutive years.

In addition to his excellent academic results, the energetic student has become actively involved in his university’s Youth Union activities.  As Deputy Secretary of the Inter-Youth Union Organisation of the university’s Commercial Faculty, he has taken the initiative to organise such meaningful activities as street music performances and selling flowers and cards.

Hieu and his colleagues have together raised between 20 and 25 million VND every year from generous domestic donors for their ‘Winter Voluntary Programme’.  In 2015, he participated in his university’s Summer Volunteer Programme in Quang Ngai Province’s Ly Son Island District.

Hieu also received municipal-level ‘Student with Five Good Deeds’ awards in 2 consecutive years, and was honoured for his active involvement in social activities between 2014 – 2017.  He has been named the most outstanding contestant in a Book Presentation Contest at the University of Science and Technology.  In addition, he and his friends at the Commercial Faculty won first prize at the Lovely Night Dance Festival.
