Vi received a Certificate of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee (PC) in recognition of her notable award, and was given a reward of 2 million VND in cash from the city budget.

Addressing the ceremony, municipal PC Vice Chairman cum Head of the Department of Publicity and Training Dang Viet Dung remarked that Vi’s letter clearly demonstrates her profound humanitarian love and deep compassion despite her young age.

In particular, he also highlighted the important role of schools and families in increasingly facilitating talented pupils to enhance their inherent aptitudes, thereby becoming hi-quality human resources for the city’s progress in future years.

This year’s national level of the UPU International Letter-Writing Contest took place between October 2016 and February 2017, and the event’s organisers received over 1 million letters from under 15s from across the country.

The prestigious contest had the title: “Imagine you are an advisor to the new UN Secretary-General.  Which world issue would you help him tackle first, and how would you advise him to solve it?”  This topic was chosen to celebrate the election of the new UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, who took office at the start of this year.

After being translated into both English and French, Vi’s letter has now been submitted to the International Bureau at UPU’s headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, for entry into the international-level contest.

Vi is now the 7th pupil from Da Nang to have won the top award in the national level of this annual contest, with 3 of them from the Tay Son Junior High School.  It is being dubbed ‘the school of UPU prizes’ for the remarkable achievements its pupils have made at this prestigious contest over recent years.
