Dinh Anh Dung, a 12^th grader from the Ha Noi-Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students, won a gold medal at the 18^th Asian Physics Olympiad in Russia.

According to the Department of Educational Testing and Accreditation under the Ministry of Education and Training, the 8-member Vietnamese team to the event also walked away with 3 silvers and 3 consolation prizes.

The silver prize winners were Nguyen The Quynh, Ta Ba Dung and Tran Huu Binh Minh, all of them 12^th graders from Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted in Quang Binh Province, the High School for Gifted Students at the University for Natural Science under the Hanoi National University, and the Phan Boi Chau High School in Nghe An Province, respectively.

Viet Nam was among the 7 teams to win gold at this year’s competition, along with China, Russia, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Taiwan (China).

The Vietnamese team earned 3 silver, 3 bronzes and 2 consolation prizes at last year’s event.

The competition, taking place from May 1 to 9 in Yakutsk, attracted around 150 students from 22 countries and territories around the world. They competed in two stages of answer theoretical questions and practice.

The Asian Physics Olympiads began in 2000. It is currently the premier physics competition for Asian pre-university students. It aims to build a network among leaders for further collaborative projects in physics education, such as creating physics competitions in their own countries, and to encourage Asian countries to participate in other international physics competitions.
