The Director of the municipal Department of Education and Training, Mr Nguyen Dinh Vinh, remarked that over recent years the local education and training sector has seen numerous remarkable achievements in accordance with the national Party Committee’s Resolution No 29-NQ/TW.  This resolution is about promoting fundamental and comprehensive innovations in education, serving industrialisation and modernisation in a socialist-oriented market economy during the period of international integration.

Many local educational policies have received high praise from the general public.  Most notable was a special regulation which allowed all of the city’s schools to open their libraries and sports areas to the public from 6.00am to 9.00pm daily during the current 3-month summer vacation.  The intention is to provide more healthy entertainment spaces for local residents, especially children.

The city has also effectively implemented the national ‘Milk for Schools’ programme in which free glasses of milk are given to children at kindergartens and primary schools nationwide.

In particular, Director Vinh hoped that MOET would facilitate the establishment of the Viet Nam-UK University in the city in the years ahead.

Municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho asked MOET to help the city authorities and the University of Da Nang (UDN) to effectively coordinate with government ministries and agencies in order to begin the Da Nang University Village project as soon as possible.  The main reason is that this large-scale project will be of great significance to the local education and training sector.

In a similar vein, municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh said he would like MOET and other government ministries and agencies to assist Da Nang in developing it into the leading educational hub in the central region and highlands in the near future.

In reply, Minister Nha asked the city to focus on improving the quality of local education and training, offer more training courses for teachers to improve their professional skills, and promote more application of IT.  Special heed should be paid to accelerating international integration activities.

In particular, greater efforts should be made to develop high-quality human resources to help the city promote the development of tourism services, IT, and other aspects in which the city boasts great potential and strengths.
