The programme was organised last year by Honda Viet Nam (HVN) in collaboration with the Honda Foundation, and the National Institute for Science and Technology Policy and Strategy Studies (NISTPASS).

The annual prestigious awards are given out to students who excel in science and technology with active participation in extra-curricular activities, and continue to aspire to higher academic achievement.

The Y-E-S award programme is expected to promote popularisation of ecotechnology amongst the young generations, and to strengthen interaction and exchange between Japanese youths and young people expect to lead science, technology and industry in their respective countries.

Starting in 2006, the Honda Y-E-S Award programme aims to foster future leaders of science and technology as part of the Honda Foundation’s 30th anniversary project.

Tien, who was brought up in a poor farmer family in Nghe An Province, recalled his family’s unforgettable hardships during his childhood.

His family was dealt a devastating blow many years ago when his beloved mother suddenly passed away when he was a 12th grader, thereby his family members faced countless difficulties in their lives.

Regardless of unexpected misery and sorrow, the young man made the strong determination and great efforts to pursue their academic dreams for a brighter future.

Thanks to his ceaseless efforts, Tien was enrolled into the Electricity Faculty of the University where he continues nurturing his strong passion for science and technology.

The talented student has always been highly respected by his friends and coursemates due to his remarkable academic results.

Although Tien is studying at the university, Tien is being employed by the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Production Complex in Quang Ngai Province thanks to his high qualifications.

The strong-willed man said that, in the near future, he wants to participate in a short internship programme in thermal power plants or steel mills in Japan such as JFE, Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corp.  This, thereby, will facilitate him to accumulate more knowledge and work skills in a bid to become an experienced engineer, and make greater dedication for the national technological development in the years ahead.
